A Curious George Halloween PBS Special Premiere

For as long as I can remember, I have always been a fan of PBS’ cherished little monkey Curious George. Probably because he exemplifies the same curiosity that children demonstrate in the early years of their life (which happens to be my favorite age).  When I first learned about the Halloween special Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest being featured as the centerpiece of PBS KIDS’ Halloween programming lineup, there was no doubt in my mind this was something worth promoting. Halloween is like the kick-off to the start of the holiday season, but keeping TV viewing for a young child clean, non-scary, and entertaining can be difficult during the month of October.  As a parent to young children, I try hard to keep the “spooky” type viewings to a minimum.  In fact, I avoid about 99% of all other channels on TV until they are asleep.  Thankfully we can count on PBS KIDS to give our little ones clean and safe shows for Halloween! This Monday, PBS KIDS promises a one-hour family-friendly Halloween special with their beloved George, celebrating curiosity and friendship.

Last week we had the pleasure of receiving a DVD copy of Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest (thank you LBC and WGBH!) along with a book and some printables being offered online.  My kiddos loved the movie so much they’ve watched it countless times since we received it!

About the movie: It’s George’s first Halloween in the country, and Bill tells him and Allie about the “Legend of No Noggin” – a spooky tale about a hat-kicking scarecrow who haunts the countryside on Halloween.   George and Allie are determined to take a picture of No Noggin in action. But first George needs to figure out what he’s going to be for Halloween so he can win the grand prize at the Boo Festival costume contest for Bill. Is the legend real?  Will they snap a picture of No Noggin in action?  What will George wear for the costume contest?  If you have little ones, I invite you to tune in and find out on Monday October 28th when PBS KIDS airs the premier of Curious George’s first Halloween movie!

Also launching in tandem with the premiere is a fun online game, a Tic Tac Toe printable game, and a Curious George mask printable (available in English and Spanish of course) which you can find at pbskids.org.  I would recommend printing the Tic Tac Toe game because it’s easy to play, uses fine-motor and problem solving skills, and can be cleaned up in a matter of 10 seconds.  It’s a win win in my book!

For the Tic Tac Toe printable game I taped the paper circles to 5 red, and 5 yellow checker coins from our Connect 4 game.  This made it easier to pick them up and less likely to fly off their spot whenever a light breeze passed by.
